Just watched this a second time and it's absolutely gutting.

First, the whole piece is fantastic just on the surface text level. Gadsby does a fantastic job conveying her queer experience of shame and her woman's experience of misogyny and male chauvinism. It's all insightful and personal and great material.

What a tedious, small-stakes movie. The only bright spot for me was the women-centered cast and story. But you've come a long way baby; women can star in mediocre action films now, too.

Particularly bad choice to have all the cast speaking in fake Russian accents for most of the movie.

John Cusack is wasted though; how many variants of 'slack-jawed' can one actor do? And a special fuck you to Kevin Spacey whose presence now ruins every movie he was in. Amazing casting though, 1997 and he's already playing an older powerful man preying on young men.

    The standout of…

What a movie! Wow I can't believe I hadn't seen this before. Instant classic of the 70s. Campy horror about pagans conducting free love and ritual human sacrifice. And so British! Just lovely. It recalls Village of the Damned in a lot of ways only instead of cold war mind control being the menace, it's promiscuous hippies.

I feel like this film is full of tropes that almost, but not quite get quoted in every other movie ever. The creepy…
