Just got back. Must say, I was overwhelmed with the similarities to the original trilogy, but in the best way. All the important aspects of the originals are there: the look and feel, the humor, the gadgets and droids and the spaceships.
The new characters add a depth to the story that I honestly didn't think was possible. They are well-fleshed out and I felt connected to them. I sincerely cared for them.
Not so sure about the Supreme Leader…
Never have I had such a visceral and physical reaction to a film. Anyone with anxiety should take a Xanax before this film, because it is truly the most intense film I have ever seen. The acting was stellar. Horror movies don't stand a chance against the suspense and grip that this movie held over me. Holy shit, I think this movie deserves Best Picture over Birdman any day.
I wanted to love this film, I really did. It was lackluster, Bond was pretty boring, there was no humor, and it wasn't as dark as it wanted to be. Nor was there hardly any characterization, and who wants to watch a Bond movie to see Bond as a person, rather than a taut, intelligent, sexy killing machine?
Christoph Waltz was completely wasted in this, and his character was frankly really shitty. Felt like no one tried in their roles, and the lack of Judi Dench as M just added to the banality. Meh
