I kind of liked the survivalist mode this is in for the first third but really check out once the mercenaries arrive. The silent threat of Riddick is just not as compelling as that absurdly self-serious narration with lines like "instead of Furya we wound up in..... Not Furya." It does not help when one of your main baddies is the worst performance I've seen in months (Jordi Mollà's stilted turn as Santana) and you've got a CGI dog running around. Ultimately this series is only interesting to me when considering how the individual installments connect to one another (or more often fail to connect). Maybe the least cohesive franchise I've ever seen despite each film being passable sci-fi.
