It's a challenge to make a field good film while also containing some serious and spicy melodrama but Nair manages it. In doing so it probably deadens the impact of both the comedy and the drama but not in any way that's too detrimental. The only real downside in this film is some of the editing/camerawork which at times is eye-roll inducing. A good film at the end of the day and one that's worth a watch.

What a ride. This is a really good film on a technical level. The sets are great, the acting (especially Lemmon and Fonda) are great, the cinematography, sound and editing are all good. What elevates the film is it's script which is just wonderful. I was seriously on the edge of my seat for the finale. The energy throughout is fantastic and there are enough twists to make this a top rate thriller and a movie that holds up extremely well.

No need to comment too much on a movie this famous. The cinematography, score and Eastwood are all amazing. This might be my personal favorite Leone movie. The final showdown is one of the greatest showdowns in cinema history. Outstanding throughout.

    ★½

The opening paragraph of the film, in grammatically incorrect English, takes 30 seconds to read and let's us know that the Cenote's were used for water and for sacrifice. The next hour and change consists of grainy footage of fish and voice overs that essentially repeat the opening crawl. Interspersed with all this is basically home video of daily life in Mexico. Outside of the occasional pretty image I didn't find anything interesting about this film. The sound is repetitive. The narrative is repetitive. The images are repetitive. Worse what it's repeating has no depth of emotion, no story, and no impact.
