It's a little difficult to explain, because this is just a pretty bad movie on many levels. I wasn't even that into it throughout the first half-hour. But at that point, The Dream Master just goes "Fuck it" and ramps up into a riotously entertaining riff on the whole Freddy Kruger mythos.
Logic goes completely out the window (actually, it never enters the house in this film) but this movie is all about the visuals. It's almost like it takes all the best moments from Dream Warriors and just decides to focus on imaginative fantasy kills to the exclusion of all else.
The imagery comes thick and fast - my two personal favourite moments are the soul pizza and the weight-lifting, cockroach-transformation death - seriously disturbing shit.
I never caught this film the first time around, but as much as I know the original movie is by far the better crafted and superior film, I really think this one has become my personal favourite. I'm a little surprised it doesn't have so much love from Nightmare fans in general (only a little, because I get how flawed it is).
