Taking place in a small, wintery, lonely and empty feeling city in China, An Elephant Sitting Still is probably one of the most depressing films I have ever seen because of the context around it and the film itself. There is almost no unnatural lighting indoors, even the schools are dark everything is so natural feeling and intimate feeling, I could count on my fingers the amount of times there was a shot atleast five meters far. All the lighting…
In 1959, Kobayashi’s ninth film was one of the first times the Otaru-born director actually fully committed to experimenting (he had no idea if he would even finish the film on time); working on the film for five years and rushing the film just a month off the release date to produce a final project that wasn’t missing any scenes.
So in order to be able to tell whatever story he wanted, he worked on these two films that released…
“Next time, do better.”
Unbelievable is a miniseries that seems to have flown under the radar since I don’t think I’ve seen a single soul talk about this series. Regardless, it’s a show that has fantastic performances all around. Especially by Kaitlyn Dever, I really wanted to know more and more about her story and her character, just because of her performance… Her acting was just that good! I don’t know why but I didn’t love After Hours. I didn’t care about the main character or anything that was happening but there’s a reason.. things were happening to fast for me to care and thus i didn’t feel the weight of anything that was happening to this guy. the soundtrack is pretty good and the cinematography is cool i guess but that’s it. it’s probably my least favourite scorsese next to shutter island. I know it’s the underdog anyway considering it’s made between king of comedy/raging bull and goodfellas but it still has some merit. Have a great day everyone!
