Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World ★★★★★

From it opening frame of the Universal Logo with theme playing like a vintage video game, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World plays into it's visual comedy with comic book punches and music.

Ramona skates into a dream of Scott who is already dating Knives a 17 year old high school girl. Scott can't take Ramona out of his head as he finds out she is real. As he starts to date Ramona he finds out that he has to fight her exes not ex boyfriends. And the battle commences as each 7 exes come in one by one to fight Scott.

Directed by Edgar Wright, the movie is entertaining throughout its runtime. I mean when its comes to its final frame where Continue? is asked with the countdown I just want to re play the whole movie again. To the visual cues from Wallace texting to Scott's sister and her putting some sense into Scott's head and Julie cursing and yelling it all becomes blended into subtexts. It is really like the comic book suddenly became alive.

Ramona's changing hair colors to Scott actually feeling the worst and never confronting about his felling and afraid of the L word, it becomes a fight between himself too.

I love the scenes where Kim passes comments to Scott, Scott trying to forget about Envy and the narration commenting on how his break up went to his haircut which takes back 3 days before the break up.

The movie also shows how Ramona has broken hearts as she has went by and her accepting the fact she was in the wrong at times. She wants to get a steady relationship far away from her land. Even she points out Scott's relationships when he asks about her bad break ups.

Visually this movie is stunning with effects and the words coming out like the little white cloud in comics. You even remember the quotes, Knives Chau: I've never even kissed a guy before.
Scott Pilgrim: Hey... me neither.

Scott Pilgrim: I'm in lesbians with you.
[Several minutes later]
Scott Pilgrim: I said lesbians...

Vegan Police: Freeze! Vegan Police!

Vegan Police: It's milk and eggs, bitch.

Scott Pilgrim: Amazon.ca! What's the website for that?
Wallace Wells: Amazon.ca

Scott Pilgrim: I know you play mysterious and aloof just to avoid getting hurt. And I know you have reasons for not wanting talk about your past. I want you to know that I don't care about any of that stuff. Because I'm in lesbians with you.

Ramona V. Flowers: Because bread makes you fat.
Scott Pilgrim: Bread makes you fat?

We are Sex Bob-Omb and we are here to make you think about death and get sad and stuff

When it comes to performances Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim plays the perfect dorky guy trying to get a girl while fighting her exes. He is witty and smart with sadness clouding over him.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers might be one of the most iconic characters ever. She is dreamy and real. I mean I would fight those 7 exes for her. Mary plays Ramona with her merits and demerits to perfection. Ramona isn't perfect she is trying to redeem herself from her past which comes back to her.

Alison Pill, Mark Webber, Johnny Simmons, Ellen Wong, Kieran Culkin, Aubrey Plaza, Anna Kendrick, Brie Larson, Mae Whitman, Brandon Routh, Jason Schwartzman and Chris Evans play their supporting characters to perfection. I love yelling Aubrey Plaza.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World for me is Edgar Wright's masterpiece. It is something that you can watch anytime of any day. It is smart with humor, good with its punches. It has action and music. A girl and her 7 exes. It is visually stunning. Quotable. The movie is perfect blend of everything. I think this movie just made my unconditional love list.

Can't Wait for Baby Driver now which I will be watching in 7 hours.
