The Subversive Canon: Secretly Revolutionary Cinema

Films have always been excellent for smuggling covert messages within its frames. Censors and authority figures can only see a simple genre flick whilst the production team and smart audience members can read between the lines to discover a radical subtext. For example, the famous Czech animator Jan Svankmajer once commented that his films were allowed through simply because the censors thought they were simple children's films when in reality they're revolutionary tracts.
