As a tinnitus sufferer myself, listening to loud music or stressful driving makes the ringing in the ears worse. Many use white noise or soothing instrumentals to block it out, very different to hard rock as portrayed in the film. I'm uncomfortable with the 'coolness' of blasting tunes into your ear drums, the damage can be irreversible. So in terms of ’representation’ of the condition it just isn’t very accurate and sends a wrong message.

    Perhaps I'm looking at Baby…

Beautiful, picturesque cinematography, a southern plantation rendered through gorgeous light, heat, mist, and overgrown surroundings. The candle-lit interiors transporting you back to the 1800s. Perhaps too unambitious and impersonal in its characterization, wasting a great cast whom remain oddly vague and underwritten, representing repressed sexuality during wartime. Full of lustful glances and mind games but hard to care. Style over substance.

Sci-fi action mystery-thriller. I remember when I saw the movie back in 2002 at the cinema a person sitting behind me commented out loud “Spielberg?” during the end credits. I can see where he was coming from as it’s darker than Spielberg’s typically sentimental approach, and could have been directed by another filmmaker.

Retrospective, throwback, revival, homage, love letter. Take your pick. Good but doesn't reach the heights of Stranger Things or Stand By Me, both appear to be influences. The mystery kept me on edge but to reach greatness the story needed to present a bigger number of suspects and to create fully formed characters. For the most part, the 80s nostalgia works, especially the synth score. Excessive dialogue about masterbation. I don't want to be too critical of the movie because I did actually enjoy it!
