Aidan Oswald-Harris’s review published on Letterboxd:
Saw it with one of my best friends in the theaters. English dub.
I spoiled myself with Studio Ghibli as a kid. My Neighbor Totoro was my first when I was 12 and it’s my second favorite I have seen. I would follow it up with Kiki’s Delivery Service, which is my favorite Ghibli film.
It had been years since I saw My Neighbor Totoro and it is still one of the greatest films ever made. Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki do fantastic jobs with the atmosphere and world building of their films. Incredibly imaginative and expressive.
The theater we were in had all sorts of demographics (children, teens, adults, and elders) and every single one of them laughed at least once. I quietly laughed too much.
I wanted to see Spirited Away in theaters but chose not too and I had no plans to see Castle in the Sky or Howl’s Moving Castle, but My Neighbor Totoro was the one I HAD to see, since it’s always been one of my absolute favorite animated movies.
Masterpiece. I hope to marathon every Studio Ghibli film over Christmas break.
