I feel like I have a love/hate relationship with Craig’s bond movies. Casino Royale is easily the best, but then every subsequent movie goes out of its way to NOT do everything that worked about Casino Royale! I don’t get it. Hard to argue with Skyfall because it’s so beautiful, but even it leans more into the classic Bond tropes, it’s just grim about it. While NTTD is better than Quantum and Spectre, it still moves away from what works in Royale and FAR too heavily into the melodrama.
In short, I loved a lot of the visuals and it had a strong opening, but man I HATED the ending. Doesn’t make sense to me why it’s necessary to kill him off? Bond is not Tony Stark. He is not Batman. He is not Wolverine. His character, or really any part of this franchise, does not warrant an ending like this either in tonality or story. They are literally recasting Bond anyway it makes no sense.
Should’ve been 30 minutes shorter and ended with Bond driving off into the sunset with his family.
