Favourite Movies are the movies I liked the most from last month, first time watches or rewatches.
Looking at the film and how poltically charged it us, one cane feel intimidated by the amount of information Godard is bombing us with, I did at times. He also takes some experimental sequences too far for most audiences, perhaps me included, but it's so filled with smart shots and aesthetically pleasing visuals that I can't help to admire it, and, most importantly, liking it.
The brilliant thing about "Never Rarely Sometimes Always" is the fact it brings our eyes and our minds to that of this young girl, and young girls in general. Her fears and anxieties become ours, there were so many times I felt claustrophic and in general fear. Everything was so uncertain and all decisions could lead to heartbreak.
Eliza Hittman's camera knew exactly when to turn away, and at these moments where we weren't seeing the characters we saw more…
When I first saw "Charade", I didn't really like it. It was, so subversive, concerning our expectations of a Hitchcockian thriller that I just found it too goofy to actually enjoy it. Rewatching it now, it was very very funny. Since I already knew what was up, I wasn't disappointed by what I was expecting and I could really enjoy it. And looking back, I don't really know what my concerns about it were!
