A Futile and Stupid Gesture

A Futile and Stupid Gesture ★★★★½

I might be in the sweet spot of people this film is for: grew up on and was maybe shaped by Animal House and knew some of the infamy between National Lampoon and SNL, but was (as a Brit) unaware of who made National Lampoon in the first place, so I got caught up in and caught out by a story I didn't expect.

I got a lot from this. Will Forte is perfect for the part, Gleeson is refreshing... the cast is great is what I'm saying. Great in a perfectly engaging casual biopic of someone lost to history, or at least eclipsed by the fame and idolatry of the more visible people of the generation, especially the actors cherished for their highly visible comedy genius.
