    Yikes, the things I watch for Dylan Minnette...this was uninspired. So bland it made me want to congeal into bone broth.

    There really is not much more I could add to that. I’ve been on a pretty crappy movie run as of late, and this one kickstarted the tour.

    This is exactly what I’ve been waiting for. For many years I’ve tried to grasp onto any glimmer of South Asian representation in Hollywood from the ever-present ‘model minority trope‘ one that is typically veiled in virtue but can be as reductive as overtly negative caricatures; to the confused Asian girl who desperately needs to break out of her cultural and religious constraints and finally “live life.” A life bounteous with boys and booze. Enticing.

    I would never have predicted that a series revolving around ‘chess’ of all things would have me glued unflinchingly to a screen, thoroughly transfixed, butt betrothed to bean-bag for several hours with a tray of breadsticks (my choice of savoury snack) positioned precariously on my lap. Untouched. 

    Best believe my legs were sufficiently sore once I finally unpretzeled them; as for the breadsticks’ fate, they lay forgotten and sulked in saltiness at their stale state. No show has made me…
