Lorenzo’s review published on Letterboxd:
A bizarre love triangle forms between a young Catholic upskirt photographer, a misandric girl and a manipulative cultist. (IMDb)
My very first Sion Sono film and I'm a loss of words to fully describe what I just watched to be honest. This film encompasses different genres in its near 4 hour runtime and I loved how Sono was able to blend it effortlessly. I think in less talented hands this film would have been a disaster but here, the blending was seamless as well as giving acknowledgement to the films and characters of the prior movies i.e. Miss Scorpion (I'm a big fan of Meiko Kaji and this is Sono's shoutout to the Female Prisoner movies).
Some of the themes that this film touches upon are Religion, Sex, Pornography, Violence, Sexual Identity, Perversion and that's just to start. The one that made a big impression on me was his take on Christianity more specifically Catholicism. Sono is not wrong in his critique but it was just hard to take for me.
There's so much to that you can point out in this film in which other reviews have already done so I won't go more in depth about the plot and the characters.
This movie is highly worth seeking out and is highly recommended for those that are not easily offended!
One of my favourite films that I have watched in 2020.
