The Boxer's Omen is one of the more renown Shaw Brothers Studios Horror films partly due to the fact that the uncut version of the film was unavailable legally in the West for the longest time. It was somewhat of a holy grail to find and watch this uncut version as it was only found in bootlegs of a VHS source.

    Fortunately, that's no longer…

My apologies in advance for the long review and it's going to be even longer longer, after I watch the Redux version and add my comparison comments here.

    Theatrical Version
My very first Wong Kar-wai film and of course for me, I had to start with his only Wuxia film that he done so far.

    Dracula Rises from Coffin

    ★★★

Dracula Rises from Coffin is a South Korean take on the Dracula myth using the Hammer Film Production and their collaboration with Shaw Brothers as inspiration.

The cinematography is very reminiscent of the esthetics that the Hammer films possessed and the use of the outdoor locations, although limited, added a nice touch. Although it seemed to be a low budget film, you can't tell from the sets and locations used.

This is more campy than scary with some bad acting…

Thanks to The Time Bandits crew for the screening of this film tonight.

This Kaiju newbie throughly enjoyed the film with the decent plot, special effects and Kaiju costumes that looked cheesy but believable. The best part is seeing the destruction that the Kaiju do upon the city and its citizens.

    Watched an English Dubbed version.

I was quite taken by Crazed Fruit. My very first Kō Nakahira film and it definitely won't be my last.

Just like Hollywood was going through a phase of films based on rebellious teens popularized by Rebel Without a Cause at the time, Japan was also in the midst of creating their own version of this type of films. In 1956, Nikkatsu was struggling financially and in order to remain economically viable, they set about to produce new youth films…

    Satanic Pandemonium

    ★★★½

Satanico Pandemonium was my first foray into the Nunsploitation genre and it was mesmerizing.

I stumbled across this film because it shared the same name as the Salma Hayek character in From Dusk Till Dawn. At least now I know where Robert Rodriguez took the name from.

Sister Maria, played by Cecilia Pezet, is tempted by Satan into committing violent and sexual crimes. Although the sypnosis sounds lurid, the film doesn't feel exploitative, and the main reason is that the…
