I ended up enjoying this much more than I expected to. It was a fun action/adventure film with some pretty good horror elements going for it, much like 1999’s The Mummy, but obviously more family friendly. It was definitely entertaining from start to finish, but I do think it could have been a bit shorter. Jaume Collet-Serra once again does really well with his visionary skills as a director. I thought this was fricken hilarious, and one I honestly liked more than Clerks. And then you have that great cameo. Jason Lee stole the show here though in addition to Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith.

This movie was bad ass, and I loved every minute of it. It had such a fantastic case of bad ass females all getting to have their moments to shine. This was everything I was hoping it would be. It’s a fun, feel-good, and respectful remake with great song choices and fun musical numbers, all with an excellent 80s aesthetic. Jessica Rothe is once again sensational as the lead, and then we have Alicia Silverstone and Mae Whitman who are great in their supporting roles. I also liked the change in narrative it made with having a wrap around story as well as making Julie a more strong-willed character. And it axed the bad side plot of the original with the friend and her stepmom.
