Scorsese’s working in such a muted register here, so far from the live wire theatrics of GOODFELLAS or the operatic grandeur of CASINO, that you might not notice the accumulating moral weight of this epic until the final stretch where he drops it all on your heart like a ton of bricks.
Can't muster a full review, so here are some random thoughts.
- I'm almost thirty, so I didn't think STAR WARS could make me mad anymore. Disappoint me, sure, but no anger. Way to prove me wrong, JJ.
- There may be worse STAR WARS movies, but none has felt so ramshackle, so unceremonious, and so lacking in any meaningful identity.
