    Halloween Kills

An absolute MESS of a film that doesn’t seem to know what it wants to say…and since when did Halloween films have to say anything anyway?

Halloween (2018) actually did have something to say, a slasher film for the MeToo era. This sequel to that seems to be trying to say something about Trumpism/lynch mob mentality, but as aforementioned is a confused mess.

So why three stars? Fun, grisly, rips along, and excuse me for having a good time when…

  • Angel

Packed full of talented character actors and a sleazy plot that gives off the feeling of Cruising in some ways, Angel is also juxtaposing a serial killer/sex worker tale with that of an 80s high school film!

Bizarre really, but has some good moments. Colourful, entertaining, but the titular character not being able to get her own vengeance in the end was a shame. A fun watch for genre fans.

    Zack Snyder's Justice League

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

An enjoyable if slightly overlong comic book adaptation featuring a villain with a strange looking axe.

But enough about ‘Blade of the Immortal’.

Let’s address the elephant in the room: this is fan service, not Zack Snyder-service. Perfect for HBO Max’s (still recent) launch, and perfect for getting column inches galore and a product trending for months on end, ‘The Snyder Cut’ is a cynical production catered towards a loud fan base that will spend their hard earned on seeing…

    Night of the Creeps

Only recently say Night of the Creeps for the first time and rewatching it again for Halloween month, I have to say it’s an absolutely perfect film for it. It knows it’s B-Movie influences (and even explicitly states them at one point) and it’s charming, funny, and has everything you could want from an October flick: Aliens, zombies, undead pets, flamethrowers, decapitations, exploding heads….cannot recommend it enough to genre fans like myself that have been sleeping on it all these years.
