Hotel Monterey

Hotel Monterey ★★★★

Leave it to the Queen of Cinema, Chantal Akerman, to turn lengthy, silent shots of a dingy New York hotel into a profound study of loneliness and the human condition. Without a word or even a sound, Hotel Monterey says so much. My brain doesn't work well with total silence, so I watched while listening to the new Sleater-Kinney album. Maybe not the most appropriate thematic score, but I got to simultaneously enjoy the work of three all-time incredible women of the arts. (Side note: Path of Wellness is amazing.)
