    Film Socialisme

the most anti kneg core thing i have ever seen. would have prob gotten more enjoyment out of the navajo subs but my copy didnt come with any and i didnt bother to find em.

not sure if this is a deconstruction or mockery, or both, but it was not entertaining or interesting in the slightest. maybe godard just wanted a free boat cruise.

my 2000th film, thank you rogy.

  • The Tragedy of Macbeth

    The Tragedy of Macbeth

    ★★★½

everything from acting to directing to set design to cinematography in this is kinda sick but the end product is just kind of a decent dry adaption of macbeth. kind of a shame.

    sick witches tho

If we accepted that we're all the same, there would be peace.

Even at death's door, Obayashi's love for the craft never falters. Diagnosed with terminal cancer, he not only manages to make his long time dream project in Hanagatami, which would have been a fitting closing chapter for him as a director, he has enough energy and spirit to muster up a final film in Labyrinth of Cinema.

Even in the final year of his life, his creativity and…

What the fuck this was insanely good. Wacky adventures in Africa and he even manages to fit in some of his classic anti-war narrative. Def a lot of technical issues, but the artstyle rules, and some of his stylistic choices are also great. I don't know why I expected this to be boring because I am never disappointed by this man

Thank you Africa and thank you Obayashi

  • Dying of the Light

    Dying of the Light

Review is for the 'Dark' cut, which I watched, but will prob be taken down from LB again

Although rough around the edges it's really interesting. A lot of thematic threads are really undercooked and idk if theres cut footage fleshing that out that Schrader couldn't get his hands on, but what he manages to do with the limited resources he has is extremely cool. The distortive episodes feels straight out of some expressionist silent with an overbearing score and emotive orange/blue tints, combined with some Ritalin and cocaine fueled editing on top of it.

Wish i could've seen his real vision tho. Release the Schradercut

Guerilla editing might be badass, but I wish i could've seen his real vision tho. Release the (real) Schradercut

  • The French Dispatch

    The French Dispatch

    ★★½

annoyingly quirky and just so extremely boring for the entire runtime. went in not trying to be a contrarian and hate on it but its just wes quirky style with hollow cardboard characters which is the problem i have with a lot of his other films, but this one takes it to such extremes that it feels like a self parody of his other stuff, which at least has some genuine heart to it.

  • Drive Angry

    Drive Angry

insanely high concept but also extremely fucking trash. for every cool moment theres 2 trash ones to compensate.
