    The Master

The Master is the latest towering achievement from one of the masters of modern cinema, Paul Thomas Anderson. It is an experience that has the ability to completely change your perception about movies and their way of following ideas in a narrative that both confuses and delivers at the same time and gets its job done in the end far deeply than what you basically see. For a movie to be this much perfect on so many levels (both technically…

Fallen Angels is seen as a sequel or spiritual descendant of WKW's most popular film, Chungking Express (1994). Released a year after that, Fallen Angels was originally conceived as the third story for that film. Just like 'Chungking', this film has two different stories. But unlike it, they are somewhat interconnected because of the geography and themes, the characters from each of these stories run into each other. The first story features Leon Lai as a hit man named Wong…

I cannot stop thinking about it. Been listening to the soundtrack on spotify repeatedly. What an utterly delight. A bittersweet delight.

The only part of this film (as a Muslim or even ignoring the fact) that rubs me the wrong way is the opening. How their prayers in Arabic are intercut with aerial shots of America... constantly going back and forth with the men in their hotel rooms reciting Quran or performing the prayer and flying shots of the city. I just can't get it out of my mind. I don't think I can describe exactly why I feel this way…

Oh good lord! How incredible, how utterly devastating, depressing and emotionally wrecking.

Frances McDormand... such brilliance. Olive Kitteridge is a complicated and multi-faceted character. Bitter but not an evil person. Hard to love but even harder to hate. McDormand nails it, her performance is one of the best to come out in recent years. Probably her career best effort. I mean the entire ensemble is good (Richard Jenkins for instance is excellent as well). But the range in which McDormand…

    Movie #20 - Stalker (Russia)

I am a great admirer of the shockingly amazing, Andrei Tarkovsky. I love and worship his work, he definitely knows his craft. While his work doesn't entirely resonates with me on emotional or personal level per say, it always blows my socks off whenever i see it. I can spend hours trying to absorb the beauty that is there in his every single shot. His deliberately paced, slow…
