Still really dig this one, as it feels to be the first of the Abrams era of Trek where everyone feels comfortable. Lin killed my fears of the franchise he’d come from Fast and Furious-ly to prove himself very capable of handling a different franchise, and doing it well.
This was my third time watching this movie, and I STILL don’t know why it is so hated. I found Leto’s Joker to be good enough, and an already annoying character of Harley Quinn to not be overpowering. Sure it has a few flaws (never understood Croc) but I honestly find Suicide Squad to be pretty fun.
I really respect movies that have the nerve to not over complicate their plot in order to build fake tension. That make its protagonist someone who we get to know not through unreal situations, but interactions with other characters. That builds to a conclusion that isn't a 'happy ever after' scenario as much as a new beginning.
Needless to say, I respect Eighth Grade A LOT.
