Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York ★★★

Though not nearly as good as the first, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York works as an effective sequel a timeless classic. I’m always impressed at just how well the openings of both movies work. The elaborate sequence of events that each time results in Kevin getting left or separated from his family unknowingly are scripted rather plausibly (in a pre-9/11 world, that is). The same can’t quite be said of the logic acrobatics taking place to get Kevin McCallister and the Wet Bandits back together again. But that’s okay, because Kevin vs. Harry and Marv is the whole reason for the movie. All of the rest is really just filler and call backs to the first film and honestly makes the 2nd act drag quite a bit. (My oldest son actually fell asleep). But the payoff of Kevin tormenting his pursuers is still garners huge laughs and some squeamish groans and makes a for a really fun holiday watch with the family.
