Some great rock antics tacked on to one of the most buckwild premises I've ever seen. The evil Germans are a step too far, and is a good thirty minutes too long. With a little tightening, this could have been a lot of fun, but feels over-stuffed and bloated (and feels like it went through the hands of about thirty writers as well).

I will HAVE to revisit this, as I feel like there's so much Russian history imbedded in here that went so far over my head. Still, it's visual artistry is undeniable, an absolute visual feat.

God I love these corny Corman-Price pictures. The colors, the grandeur, the nonsense, it makes the season for me, as much as Bava's gothic gonzoness or Zulawski's intensity. Sure, the Hop-Frog stuff feels tacked on. Sure, it has one dream ballet too many. But all this doesn't matter in the face of this beautiful nonsense.

It's October! Time for our usual opening day salvo, the myth, the legend, the puberty-parable-as-snarky-werewolf masterpiece, Ginger Snaps. Every time feels like the first time, and those performances still sing. May not have the shining power it did in my twenties, but still well worth your time.
