Grading on a pass/fail system because I can’t be working out if something’s a four star or three and half star film.
Actually pretty unwatchable. Cameron Diaz is woefully miscast. Fassbender is a complete cypher, brings nothing to the role. Bardem’s hair alone is enough to write this film off. Brad Pitt is pretty good. But every scene is the same; the Counsellor looking either smug or confused while someone talks about some lofty morality shit, and it is incredibly dull for it.
Except; the Wireman scene and the bolo scene. This film comes alive when someone is being decapitated by a wire.
Spells Counsellor wrong as well. Unforgivable.
I really struggled to get into this one. I found myself just letting it wash over me listlessly. It’s not boring, it’s well made, it looks great (if a little static - I imagine due to its TV roots), this is clearly worthwhile and attentive work, but it isn’t for me. Not the one. Felt like homework, which I guess it was.
Men only want one thing, to be a teenage boy in 70s LA and try and fuck their Jewish babysitter, and I for one am sick of It.
