    Samara Weaving KILLED it.

Lots of fun-- I think horror comedies just pair so well with the weekend.

  • Soul

I KNEW this movie was going to delicately introduce large philosophical questions and force me to confront them in an emotionally-dense, but ultimately rewarding way, and I still wasn't ready.

    Very good.

    Broadcast News

Everyone sucks and has awful hair. Maybe if I was a media type (or wanted to be) I'd dig this, but it screams of journalistic self-importance. Just because the setting is the news doesn't mean all the office drama is automatically interesting or important.

While the plot circled a point about flash and entertainment super-ceding the actual story when it comes to broadcast news, the examples chosen to illustrate their case fell flat.

How dare this faux rom com take over 2 hours of my time.

  • How the Grinch Stole Christmas

    How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Nothing like rewatching a movie you saw once when you were 7.

I'm not a fan of Jim Carey or this performance but even I felt for The Grinch-- The Whos are a horrible people and Whoville is a terrifying dystopian nightmare. Not a single right angle in sight! I'd torture them too.

  • Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

In my opinion even better than the original for three simple reasons:

    1) bigger and better booby traps

    2) really leans into the child-alone-on-vaction fantasy. #1 gave us ice cream sundaes and going through your brother's room; this gave us pizza in a limousine, shopping at an enormous toy store, and ordering $1000 worth of room service to your suite at the PLAZA HOTEL! Even Eloise never lived so large

    3) Pigeon Lady > Shovel Man

Makes me miss NY. I'M WALKIN' HERE!!!!

  • Trading Places

    Trading Places

While some of the choices made have not aged well, overall this movie holds up. Still very funny, still very entertaining, and I choose to believe that's still exactly how commodities trading works.

Where it lost me was some of the over-the-top cartoonish elements of the last act. I guess that's the 80s for ya.
