Once in a while, especially when I'm hanging out with little kids, I'll fuck around and watch a kids' movie and thoroughly enjoy myself, but this ain't it.
While there's some cool ideas about grief, lovely depictions of Chinese culture and eye-catching animation, the plot is thin and execution frenetic. I could barely follow the story, much less the 6 year old I was watching with. Also the songs are absolute dogshit. All in all, this Netflix original is clearly a cash grab, poorly trying to emulate more successful Disney and Pixar joints.
Save yourself the trouble and just watch Moana again.
