Jonah D’s review published on Letterboxd:
The more I think about this movie the more pissed off I get.
This was just a heist movie disguised as a mind fuck.
I have typically really liked Nolan’s films from the grand premises to the investing characters. This movie has a grand premise which I appreciated, but then drops its pants and slaps you across the face every ten(et) seconds trying to explain it while simultaneously adding more complex and confusing elements to it, leaving you bewildered and pissed off.
I thought I had just missed out John David Washington’s name but turns out he didn’t have one...
Some epic moments are what save this film for me. I’m optimistic I will like this more upon a rematch because I desperately want to.
It also saves one of its most redeeming elements of the film for the very end which was additionally aggravating.
Definitely needs a rewatch though, although this is a negative review I’m hopeful for a more positive rewatch.
See you in the next one.
