Even if it is occasionally (maybe frequently) quite tacky, I was blown away by the sheer grandiosity of Snyder’s vision, his always-reliable action scenes, the amount of patience the movie exercises to give each character their own little mini-movie, and a thematic through-line which contains the most heart and soul that I’ve seen in a superhero movie in ages. Absolutely is way too long, yet I already feel like revisiting it. I’m not sure what the existence of this movie means for the future of blockbuster filmmaking, but it represents a monumental win for movie lovers who genuinely love to see idiosyncratic and singular directors given cart-blanche to mess around with hundreds of millions of dollars. Huge win.
