Beautifully shot, fetishism... a film about first love.

  • The Nice Guys

    ★★★★

Make more... Fucking funny, smart movie.

  • Sicario

    Sicario

    ★★★★

A pretty... pretty film and that tension it creates through its score. It's fiction that feels supernatural.. doom-laden.

  • Ex Machina

    Ex Machina

    ★★★★

Never understood why Alex Garland didn't make the move to directing his writing earlier than this. Expensive fillet knifes to a BOC like soundtrack; ...and that Todorov's narrative theory final betrayal.

  • The Abyss

    The Abyss

    ★★★★

Use to watch the directors-cut post my love affair with Cameron's Aliens. It's Cameron's most photogenic film. Extended crew still feel like the Nostromo crew went on a cringe team building course. However, the lead characters are great. Mastrantonio, Harris and Biehn make this. Not forgetting Leo Burmester's punch.

It's still a genuinely magical film. Beautiful Alan Silvestri score. I cried at the 'message' in the 3rd act. All you need to know.

  • Ghostbusters

Its been more of a difficult time for this movie than its recent offspring. Put on a high pedestal and equally used as a battering ram. I watched it because my Nephew picked it. He'd never seen it, and loved it. It's still a great New York film.

"Some moron brought a cougar to a party and it went berserk"..

I find humour in the little bit parts these days who are arguably as funny as the main cast.

  • Silver Jew

O Dallas you shine with an evil light
How'd you turn a billion steers
    into buildings made of mirrors,
and why am I drawn to you tonight?

  • Danger: Diabolik

    Danger: Diabolik

    ★★★★

Imagine 60s Batman reimagined in cynical post-war/fascist Italy? DiABOLiK. Anti corruption and austerity comic book anti-hero.
Mario Bava's Diabolik is a comic book jumping off the page in its extreme close up, use of framing and colour. I don't normally like Ennio Morricone 'hip' beat soundtracks; but it works here specially in the psychedelic opening of Deep Down.

One of the greatest comic book movies ever made. The Trust fund club at the top better look out. Bruce Wayne would be on his shit list.

  • Black Dynamite

    Black Dynamite

    ★★★★

Actual good parody of Black Exploitation and 70s Fu genre; because lets face it there generally a bit crap.
Very much in that Abrahams and Zucker style of cram in the details. Lost my shit at the short car chase. Main actor/martial artist makes very authentic Jim Kelly 'iooieee' Kung fu sounds.
Loses a bit of its momentum in its 3rd act. But worth the wait for Nixon relentless berserker nun-chuck scene in 'The Honkey House'. Overlooked gem? Compared to the state of current US comedy films. iOOOiEEE!!! Get it watched!

  • Chinatown

    Chinatown

    ★★★★

    "Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown"
