Being Frank: The Chris Sievey Story

The ending finished me off.. I remember having a chat with John Cooper Clarke back stage at a theatre I use to work at. I got him to sign one of his 45s ‘I Married a Monster from Outer Space’

I asked John about Frank. He mentioned he’d hadn’t been very well, and this was one of the few shows Sidebottom hadn’t done with Clarke on their joint tour around the country that summer. People woke up to the news…

  • Sonatine

Those framed profile shots of yakuza patiently yanki squatting next boxey to Toyota sadans...

Still beautiful, playful and brutally to the point.

  • The Monster Squad

    The Monster Squad

Another VHS rental cover classic (ref image isn’t it). Don’t know why I have vivid memories of titles from 1987/88. Maybe I spent more time at Bartley Green Video Rental than Quinton cinema then. What was I missing? a few Police Academy sequels.*
Monster Squard like Beetlejuice this was one of those 15s you could get by your dad and rent it out just on the cover.
Still has miles more primary school clout than the Gnoonies after 35 years.

    * Cinema started again when you could go without a parent with Police Academy 5, Ghostbusters II and Willow.

  • Beats Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest

Beats Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest

When Jarobi starts getting upset at Phife’s health in 08’.... I’m going to go put Low End Theory on now!

  • The Dark Crystal

    The Dark Crystal

Feels like haven’t seen this since the early 80s. Magic.
