G Doyle’s review published on Letterboxd:
Perfection and timing. All the right people in right place. You forget how visually dense it is. It's all here from the pages, everything and Gilliam added more shite from Hunter's world. Even has Gary Busey channeling one of those cops Charles Napier would play in Russ Meyer films.
The scene in the Circus rotating bar with Gonzo (Del Toro) is still one of the funniest things I've ever witnessed. From him developing the hiccups while asking a bar waitress about details of her job description, ending in him getting the shit legs trying to escape. A lot of films think they nail what it's like to be stoned and trying to get away with being normal in public. You've come to the right place.
Some tired old shite about a book never being as good as film. This takes long piss all over that.
