A languid, beautiful gothic horror that gave me goosebumps better than any film I’ve seen. I always love a horror movie where the endangered hero is a middle-aged white man instead of the archetypal virginal teen, since the horror is intensified when the least vulnerable people are rendered so. And if he’s super hot, bonus.

A great accompaniment to The Shining and Jacob’s Ladder and worthy of comparison to both.

On third viewing I was struck by how excellent Malin Akerman and Alexander Ludwig are, but their talent gets missed because they are both distractingly beautiful.

Yes, it’s just a making-of documentary. But you know what else it is?  It’s the birthday party of an 84-year-old gay man at the peak of his creative achievement being celebrated by the younger generations.

This is the gay-themed 80's horror slasher film that A Nightmare on Elm Street II gets too much credit for being. And it doesn't settle for subtext! This is explicitly a movie about navigating homophobia, and there are crazy murders too.

I've now seen two Susan Tyrrell movies (also Fat City) and in both, she steals the film with a loopy passion and unpredictable dynamism. I cannot take my eyes off her because I am dying to know how she'll…
