Jay Ledbetter’s review published on Letterboxd:
Most movies with this much style let the viewer off the hook, but Promising Young Woman manages to be flashy, playful, and sleek while always keeping the stakes lurking in the background. It is a powder keg of a movie and the potentially deadly sparks are constantly shooting off. There is joy and despair, trauma and catharsis, grief and love. The dizzying blend of genres is a wonder to behold.
Mulligan gives a career-defining performance and the supporting cast is absolutely stacked (Alfred Molina, Laverne Cox, Clancy Brown and Alison Brie downright destroy their bit parts.) Promising Young Woman is, without a doubt, one of the best films of 2020.
