First film back in a theater since Berlinale 20 — what better place to see this monster trashfest than 42nd street? Didn’t expect the wave of emotion as I entered the auditorium at the AMC; the movie could’ve been anything, but giant monsters were perfect. Loved every minute of it, and the vistas of Hollow Earth were glorious.
Did they release a different version of this in Europe? Like, a different movie altogether? Because I can't find ANY evidence of the raves I've been reading from Stateside. What I saw was a wooden mess, with almost every scene drowning in exposition and flatline dialogue, without a sense of purpose or direction, mood or tension. What I saw felt like Netflix had fed all of Scorsese's gangster flicks into a supercomputer and had the AI come up with its own jumbled version, complete with unconvincing CGI thespians and jumbled dialogue like, "Nice shop you have here" and "The other Whisperer was blown up by a car bomb."
