Quarantine = Horror Movies
Don’t forget to select your favorite films!
This is one of those docs that starts with an interesting situation and then lets it just play out. In this case it ends up giving you more than you expect, seeing how these two people brought together are actually more similar than you'd imagine. It ends too early for me, even if it's a fitting spot for it. The painter seems to push the thief and withhold herself in ways the film mostly leaves unexplored. But I suppose to…
It looks nice and well made but give it a while and it will disappoint you in basically every way possible.
Over uses jump scares so nothing is scary. Pacing is all off, it only has two speeds. Nothing this family does makes any sense. (Our young child is missing but meh it's fine it'll be okay.) No one ever speaks to anyone else about anything useful. The scary stuff doesn't even hold together thematically.
And then, the end is…
This is one of those horror movies where the pitch is solid enough but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. There is a long long way between the use of found footage here and what you see in something like HELL HOUSE LLC, which was much more effective in its actual filming and editing. This always feels amateurish and the haunted house scenes, which are supposed to be the whole point of filming are almost unwatchable. The end is better but by then I was over it.
