Silent Land

Silent Land ★★★

A European dissolution of a marriage drama in the style of Bergman or Antonioni. This sort of thing has fallen out of fashion in recent years (largely being replaced by social realism that aims for verisimilitude or ensemble portraits of society’s shortcomings), but it’s a perverse pleasure to watch one of these things done pretty well. A movie that doesn’t offer much new insight, perhaps, but I’m curious to see what Woszczynska does next.
