    Freddy vs. Jason

What a huge letdown. This was completely nonsensical, which I would not have minded if it had been fun. However, it was not.

Whose brilliant idea was it to waste most so much of the running time having the newest teenage residents of Springwood "rediscover" the secret of Freddy--just like they did in every previous Elm Street movie? And for Jason to essentially serve as a bit player prior to the climax?

Surprisingly, the best part of this installment were the intermittent celebrity cameos and early 90s pop culture references. Instead, the plot is largely a retread of the "misfit kids and their doctor team up to destroy Freddy" scenario that was handled much better in Part 3.

Most unforgivably, the final battle with Freddy was not nearly epic or satisfying enough for a film that (unconvincingly) claimed to be the final installment in the Elm Street saga.

Lived up to the hype. Some of the craziest stuntwork since the glory days of 1980s Hong Kong.

I was expecting this to be an endurance test, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. This jettisoned what I detested from the prior "Snyderverse" entries (pointless nihilism, incoherence, excessive amounts of Jesse Eisenberg), while actually providing relatively compelling storytelling, visual style, and a decent quantity of batshit-crazy eccentricities. I hope this is well received enough that AT&T gives him the money to make the followup featuring Darkseid.
