"When you’re a child, you learn there are three dimensions: height, width, and depth. Like a shoebox. Then later, you hear there’s a fourth dimension: time" - Paterson

I want more films like this in my life. Raw, organic, yet so stunningly bourgeois in its delivery of the ordinary life. Besides the poetry, which was on occasion, stifling beautiful, Adam Driver stole this film for me. An incredible delivery of such a wonderful study in being human, I recommend that you find time for this slice of extraordinary ordinary.

β€œLe Fabuleux Destin d'AmΓ©lie Poulain” is exactly as the title assures and a whole lot more – fabuleux!

Such are the best of films that make us want to change. To live better lives and share in a sometimes unbidden want of kindness. Those that inspire us to a little further happiness, or to feel that somewhat richer in our own lives.

Whilst β€˜AmΓ©lie’ may not be the perfect film, it…

β€œI’m Still Here” is a film watched and repulsed only by the most curious of cinephiles. Because in all truth, this β€˜film’ is just a big ball of nothing really. Wannabe funny without ever cracking so much as a curdled line that’d make me respond in a group chat with β€˜lol’.

It’s weird really – why would such celebrated auteurs as Joaquin Phoenix and Casey Affleck ever think that this would…

If Letterboxd has taught me anything, it’s that movie people love to use the word β€œmasterpiece”. Guilty as charged of course – but still, it has on occasions irked me. For after all, doesn’t the term in itself suggest a unique work of extraordinary, almost rarely if not impossibly matched, skill? If you’re nodding your head as you read this, then let me boldly and unapologetically direct you towards Michael Mann’s…

β€œI like things that look like mistakes” – Frances Ha

A film that demonstrates just how well Noah Baumbach examines the empathies of young adulthood and spins it into dialogue that sings out from the screen the same way a good chocolate chip biscuit melts in your mouth.

This film will make you feel all the feelings all at once – in that sort of huggy, warm, yet compromised style that Baumbach has proven to be the contemporary master.
