amy adams is too much and impossible to take seriously. they took away screentime from julianne moore and jennifer jason leigh (two of the best actresses working) and gave it all to her for her to be.. boring? would give her the benefit of the doubt, as it’s hard to tell how much of that is the shitty writing, but she is coming off of hillbilly elegy, so 😬. the editing makes it nigh-on illegible. i’m sure the reshoots didn’t help, but it doesn’t seem like there’s much hiding underneath anyways. she was barely in the window.

this ones for the hss heads. a brilliant and convoluted time structure, where everything happens in sequence and circles back on itself; the linear throughline at times puncturing the loop. part of why i’ve loved his films is the immense feats of editing they are, and this is one of the best examples of that. hong always knows exactly when to cut a scene, and it’s an under-appreciated skill. a cold, wintery film with gorgeous black/white snowfall. a great summation of his work, experimentations, and themes. one of his best.

infuriating how close this is to being good. it's setup to rip on the evil, faceless space megacorp that bankrolls this mars expedition. the unseen hand that pulls the strings on these people’s lives. the capitalists that strip safety measures to fit a third body and the safety checks that would have found a concussed fourth. the organizations dispensing with humans to profit a dollar rather than spending a dollar trying to save them. was all ready to give this…
