‘80s COLLATERAL, only Bob Forster is an emasculated cab driver/book collector looking to get his groove back before Nancy Kwan jumps in the back of his car and pays him to drive around while she blows away the small time LA thugs (led by a sickly looking Joe Spinell) who brutally killed her husband. Pretty mean, drifting from genuinely thrilling to borderline competent, all while Forster looks like he just woke up the entire time (and wears sweatpants for half the picture). Fun City Editions is batting 1.000 thus far in my book.
So, this is a "good news/bad news" scenario of the highest order (or Final Order, if we're speaking in the parlance of this picture). The good news is really only for folks who strongly disliked THE LAST JEDI. J.J. Abrams' return to the STAR WARS universe practically reduces that rather superlative instance of an auteur navigating the studio factory system and somehow still managing to make the movie he wanted to make nothing more than narrative sinew between two "traditional"…
