This lacks the precision and technical mastery of The Matrix or the awesome fight scenes and philosophical musings of The Matrix Reloaded (although the final fight with Smith is pretty cool) - and those are key to why I love the Matrix series so much. This is still of course a matrix movie but one that feels pared down and pedestrian in comparison despite the increasing stakes. It’s still an incredibly fun watch and writing wise is a great conclusion…

I'm not going to pretend like I didn't adore this, because I did. This style of filmmaking very clearly had an influence on Noah Baumbach's Marraige Story and most likely Wes Anderson too, and its so full of creativity and charm. Genuinely the best short I've ever watched. THIS IS HOW YOU USE THE MEDIUM. A fucking masterclass in aesthetics like Wong Kar Wai on crack fused with something completely unique. It's perfectly simple and yet so brilliantly executed and I need this director to make a feature film. I didn't think a short could make it into my favourites list but it has.

I haven't cried this much in two years. I had a whole review planned out but I can't really form any coherent thoughts after that ending. I guess the main thing I'll say is that while I've always tried to be a good person, watching that put selflessness in visceral terms that I've never actually thought about and for that watching this may to an extent change my life (ie I've always wanted to be a good person but have never thought necessarily about what you have to sacrifice yourself in order to truly do that). That's really important. This is an incredible movie.
