yes I did need to see Norah Jones, Jude Law, Natalie Portman and Wong Kar-wai make a film together. Deliberately didn’t see it as part of BFI’s WKW month because I thought it might be awful, but there’s actually very little to complain about it here. Yes, the storyline isn’t great but there’s a warmth to it, a kind of rom-com level fuzz that comes from Jude Law and Norah Jones’ romantic tension and all the beauty of how Kar-Wai does colour! No-one does colour, and raw emotion and time passing so well; those long shots that feel like time slowed down and speeding up, oh my.
