Hayley Neighbors’s review published on Letterboxd:
It’s Friday night and I was feeling drunk and sapphic so I decided to finally watch this because I had been putting it off for so long and WOW
Each scene in this film is a masterpiece- the lighting, framing, colors (or lack thereof) paint every frame like a painting. It is absolutely stunning and one of the most beautiful films I’ve watched in a long time - both due to the cinematography and the story.
My heart aches and bursts and just ugh.
And also from an artists perspective it is JUST *chefs kiss*. The way Marianne studies Héloïse’s figure and places it proportionally on the canvas and the glances from figure to canvas as she studies her... so incredibly beautiful and accurate to the craft.
I’m enamored as a bisexual woman, lover of film, and an artist. This is definitely one of my new favorite movies. Also that final scene??? CHRIST
