Chantal Akerman really said, “You’re gonna be a fly on the wall for over 3 hours and watch excellently framed, quiet, mundane domestic tasks, because the patriarchy has our girl’s life revolving around only house work and sex work…and she’s only getting paid for one of those things.”

It’s not an easy watch, but it’s not designed to be (I thought the first 20 minutes were quietly engaging—then it becomes an endurance test). I greatly appreciate its intent and its function in pushing and expanding my horizons when viewing film as art.

It is blatantly uneventful and undramatic, but underneath the surface, it’s very dramatic. Not an absorbing film, but a bold one.
