Wintergreen’s review published on Letterboxd:
The best film ever made about making movies? Possibly.
This film is genius, and an absolute joy from beginning to end. Unfortunately it stops short of being truly flawless. There are a couple of slightly irritating plot developments brought on by a couple of slightly irritating characters, and intentionally or not, sometimes drawing attention to aspects of filmmaking and its various limitations in the world of the film made those exact limitations stick out like a sore thumb regarding the movie itself. It had the tendency to take me out of the experience entirely.
But those nitpicks aside, Singin' in the Rain is truly a great film and a classic in every sense of the word. Its a joy to behold, and its meta subject matter essentially makes it the Birdman of the 1950's.
...if Birdman was a musical.
