Hotel Monterey

Hotel Monterey ★★★

The peaceful tranquility of existing inside a space and time. No action, no movement. Just existing in that space and time. Akerman shoots without sound this dingy hotel as a document of what it is was and will forever be because of her document.
I’m not rating this higher because without sound I found it hard to maintain interest but it’s appreciate the intent and find it a successful experiment. However, once we free ourselves from the confines of the hotel and move to the roof I felt the film come to life and loved seeing what once was and what can never be again for all the time Akerman takes to relish in its singular beauty.
All in time for it to end abruptly and disappear into time and space long lost.
