    The Witches


    This film is elevated by Joan Fontaine's crazy eyebrow-ography. Also the witchography, which is totally weird and unexpected. VERY Martha Graham. I also love how the townspeople change into their witch rags for the ceremony (I guess they new they'd be getting dirty, you don't wanna wear nice clothes).

    There was some actual suspense in the middle of the movie when you don't quite know what to expect from the priest/wannabe-priest. Kay Walsh was super watchable, so enjoyable.

    Much like Dolly herself, this movie joyfully rides the line between dirty and wholesome. A family friendly-ish take on sex positivity.  

    The intended audience seemed to change from moment to moment, which may be. Ore a statement on today’s movie morality than anything else.

    There are three long meandering linklatery dialog scenes that seem out of place among the bawdy musical numbers, but really serve to humanize her character, and underline her and Burt’s chemistry. Which is good because…

    We watched this terrible film with a bunch of our of friends for a movie night and it is very riff-worthy. The movie is a chaotic mess. You know how some movies plod along and never get going? This one is turned to eleven. They dispense with the Act 1 within the first five minutes and we’re already in the “home alone”style montage 6 minutes in.
