    A week ago Max started playing this song on repeat telling me it was to prepare for the release of Taylor’s version and I’ve never listened to Swift but I gotta say if any song deserves a really grandiose ‘film’ version complete with full credits that are half the length of the actual film then it’s this one.

    The homes in Miami Vice are empty. Not just of quotidian accoutrements, but of movement, noise, life, energy. They are just houses, not homes. Rico says to Alonso, 'you don't... you don't need to go home' because his home isn't a home anymore, but Isabella's is no home, neither is Nicholas', and Trudy is too alive to even get past her front door.

    Every other scene/frame/location is full of energy transfers and information, light. The camera wobbles, taking everything in…

    Turgid pacing, incompetent editing, ham exposition etc etc etc aside (not to mention the politics, and the 2020 horror of seeing a blue lives matter march) Nolan did us one favour. He may have ruined Joseph Gordon Levitt and Christian Bale’s sex appeal for women (in favour of making them sex symbols for hetero GQ reading men) but in covering Tom Hardy’s plump Thomas Hardy lips with that ridiculous mask and making him bulk way past what his frame can hold, Nolan inadvertently upholds Hardy’s place in Cosmo. Also commies are just hotter than billionaires  and cops
